I was sitting in the coffee shop, working on my computer. It had been an extremely busy day, and what I really wanted to do was to go home and crawl into bed.
But my commitments weren't over. I had one more engagement that night.
So I went to last week's Action Card for guidance. This card can approached in a general sense, or with a specific challenge in mind. I chose the latter.
So I took the deep breath, imagining my entire day up until now was done. I could let it go.
I found that I needed to take more than one deep breath, though. I took three – one for each of the main challenges that I had already met that day. As I exhaled, I imagined each of those challenges flowing out of my current bank of thoughts and into the past where they belonged.
Then I waited curiously to see what thought would enter my mind next. At first I just visually took in what I saw around me, which may have qualified as a constructive thought, but I was looking for something more meaningful.
Then it hit me. My next engagement was a social one, and although it might be demanding energetically, I wouldn't be alone. My friend was about to show up to meet me, and it occurred to me that he would be sharing my load for the rest of the evening!
So I felt gratitude, which only amplified as the evening continued, because he ended up taking on way more than half of the load. So the above picture of playful gratitude is exactly how that experience felt to me.
