I used to be highly irritated by the term Mindfulness, because I thought it was misleading. It's not what it seems.
It's not about identifying with our thoughts — it's about being present. It's about the inner Mind that connects us with Life itself, not about the human whirlwind of thought that I usually associate with the mind.
But now that I've seen what Mindfulness is doing for people and their organizations, I think it's a brilliant way to connect with people where they are and then lift them into a heightened state of awareness. Often in the world today, we are in our head quite a bit. And yet somehow the practice of Mindfulness actually gets people out of their heads and in tune with something deeper.
So I'd like to redeem my premature judgment and honor all the professionals using the term Mindfulness in their work to expand consciousness in organizations.
p.s. If anyone knows who originally coined the term, or is aware of authors or practitioners who are making a difference with Mindfulness in organizations, please add a comment below!
