How important are small changes?
With a tendency towards the extreme, I have crashed and burned one too many times when trying to change some really huge thing in my life, dealing with a bunch of changes all at once, and/or doing it all really really fast.
So of course when this fails, I then go to the opposite end of the spectrum, and focus on the tiny little changes instead.
To my surprise, focusing on this level of specificity can have tremendous impact – I think because these adjustments are so small that they don't call forth judgment, and also because they are often embedded into routine activities that over time can be sustained relatively easily.
Become conscious of your most trivial habits
So one way to begin this process is by taking a look at some of your everyday habits, and examining one or two details about how you do them.
Start with stirring.
